[Virus Warnings] ShadeCores is safe to use!
The problem
Sometimes after updates some antiviruses alert you or block the client from running and tells you it contains viruses.
This is a false-positive caused mostly by cheaper brands of antiviruses that uses range-detection and mistakes parts of signature for being affiliated with viruses.

This is very common in: (but not limited to)
  • MicroSoft Defender.
  • Avast.
  • McAfee.
ShadeCores is safe
ShadeCores together with Core-Series is a quite known for many years.
We have loyal players, players that come and go, and haters from either competitors or being burned as cheaters.
We're a game that keeps evolving, little by little ShadeCores better itself and we're planning on running ShadeCores for as long computer-gaming exist.
If we ever truly tried to do anything illegal or intentionally hurt any players, our reputation would be gone forever and ShadeCores would cease to exist almost overnight.
Haters have multiple times tried to drag ShadeCores in the mud with lies, faked information, twisted information and accusations.
If we had a single real virus in any released client, it would get out within hours and everyone would know within a day and we'd not hear the end of it for months.

Bottom line is, we have too much riding on our reputation to make a stupid stunt that could take it all away.

What to do when antivirus flags/block the client
Often you get an option to ignore warning, sometimes the option is hidden behind a "show more" button/link or similar.
If it's still not possible to launch the client, try to find how to white-list the client.
Keep in mind it's best to white-list the entire client folder for safety, but if you want to avoid that you should focus on "client_dx.exe" or "client_ogl.exe" which is found in the "data" folder where you keep the client.

Sometimes, you can run the opsit client fine (if you use "ogl", try "dx", or opsit).

If you have a hard time figuring it out or your antivirus is really firm, you could use the "Wine Client" instead, it works fine on Windows as well.
However, if you use the Wine-Client, keep in mind that every time ShadeCores updates you need to manually download and replace the client.
Additionally to Wine-Client, is that sometimes there's small updates, some "quick-fixes" that's not available on Wine client until next version change.
Which is why the Windows-Client is preferred.

Scan the client yourself
You are more than welcome to scan any and every item in the client folder to check if it's safe!
You can do so on https://www.virustotal.com/.

Notice however, it is possible that sometimes a new client gets a few false-positives and get up to 5 detections out of 71~ antiviruses, but you don't need to worry about that, real viruses tend to get 20+ out of 71~ detections.
In case it would get a detection or so, you can always consult with someone knowledgeable about it to determine if it's safe.
